Latest news from Swindon Speedway regarding the Bob Kilby meeting:
DAVID Howe will be back in Oxford colours for one night only at Swindon's Bob Kilby Memorial meeting.
Howe, who had a season on loan to the Cheetahs back in 2006, joins another former Cheetah Davey Watt in the side on Thursday, September 22.
The meeting will involve the three clubs Kilby rode for - Swindon, Oxford and Exeter with Aussie ace Rory Schlein already confirmed for the latter.
It will be an opportunity for Cheetahs and Falcons fans to support their teams once again after losing their clubs - Oxford for financial reasons and Exeter for housing development.
Swindon co-promoter Gary Patchett said: "It's nice to have two genuine former Oxford riders in the Cheetahs side and we will be announcing more names as the weeks go by in the build-up to the meeting."
Press release from Swindon Speedway:
AUSSIES TO RIDE IN BOB KILBY MEETING
AUSTRALIAN World Cup stars Davey Watt and Rory Schlein have confirmed they will race in the Bob Kilby Memorial meeting at Swindon on Thursday, September 22.
Kilby, one of the true Robins legends, will be remembered on a very special night featuring a three team tournament between the clubs he raced for - Swindon, Oxford and Exeter.
Watt will lead the Cheetahs into action as a former Oxford rider and Schlein has confirmed he will don the famous Falcons colours at the event.
More names are set to follow in the coming weeks but Robins co-promoter Gary Patchett is hoping to see plenty of support from frustrated Oxford and Exeter fans who have no team right now.
He said: "We're really looking forward to this and we want to provide the best entertainment possible in memory of Bob, who is still talked about with great affection here at Swindon.
"To have Davey and Rory on board already is tremendous news and for fans of Oxford and Exeter it's a rare chance for them to come and support their team.
"We did this a couple of years ago with Cradley, Reading and Oxford and there is now a team in the National League representing Cradley. I'd like to think that team evolved in some small way from that night at Blunsdon.
"Hopefully the press in Oxford and Exeter will once again highlight the fact that there is a demand for the sport to return to those two venues sooner rather than later."
The Oxford Speedway Supporters' Club will be holding a barbeque at the Kidlington Green Social Club in Green Road this Saturday (August 27th) to coincide with the Torun Grand Prix, the eighth round of the 11-round series. Former Oxford Cheetah Greg Hancock holds a 22-point lead in the series.
The barbeque starts at 5.30pm, with coverage of the GP from Torun, Poland starting at 6.00pm. All the usual fun and games, such as the raffle, Find The Cheetah and the bingo, will take place.
Admissions prices are: Adults £8, Children 12-16 £4, Children Under 12 £2. OSSC Members get a £1 reduction on admission.
Please note that there will NOT be a barbeque on Saturday, September 10th for the Nordic GP, as there are other functions at the club on that day.
OXFORD CHEETAHS UPDATE
There is an event at the Kidlington Green Social Club for tonight's Italian Grand Prix, in which former Cheetah Greg Hancock looks to consolidate his lead at the top of the World Championship standings.
However, there a couple of things to note. Firstly tonight's event is a buffet rather than a barbeque, with the cost of admission a bargain £5. This slight change from the norm is because the SOS group are holding a fund-raising Aunt Sally event, collecting for Sobell House, during the day today.
Also, due to the high humidity in Italy, the Grand Prix starts an hour later than usual. Therefore the action from Terenzano commences at 7pm. However, it's no problem if you turn up at the usual time, as there will be people there all day for the Aunt Sally.
All the usual games (Find The Cheetah, Sweepstake, Bingo, etc) will take place.
Come on Greg!!
