DIRT TRACK COMPETITION TO HOT UP AT OXFORD
The eventful and competitive Dirt Track series comes to the Oxford Stadium at Cowley again on Friday 15th July, in an evening that offers Quad, Solo Dirt Track and for the first time Pit bike racing.
The theme for the evening is definitely rivalry with pre event banter between competitors certainly going to add to the electric atmosphere at the stadium.
The QRA British Quad Oval Final last time was an all time classic between Reading based Danny Smith, Welshman Ben Richmond and former champions Andy Heitman and Carl Bunce, with all riders banging bars for the win. Add into the mix the former champion Lee Hazelwood and the fact that some serious rivalries have been building up mean this is an event they all want to win.
In the M and S Truck Rentals British Solo Dirt Track Championships there is sure to be a battle between the top 2 in the series, Dan Berwick from Chatham and Worcestershire Youngster Ben Millichap. Both riders have won a round each but they will be remembered for their coming together at Oxford in round 1 and both have stated their intentions of wanting to win the series. Former Oxford speedway rider Jason Newitt lies third in the series and will have strong local support.
One rider making his Dirt Track debut Dean Hillier is sure to be a contender having beaten a quality field at a recent Wimborne Grasstrack. The Bournemouth based rider is a promising young talent with an exciting style to match and will take some stopping on current form.
In addition to the above this meeting also includes a Pit Bike challenge which sees some of the UK’s top Pit Bike riders do battle. Amongst the racers are Mark Richardson who is a specialist and title winner in this sport, but he has big competition with one of the nation’s finest Luke Coker. Other racers to watch out for are former Grasstrack and Speedway rider Gary Phelps as well as current speedway rider Jamie Courtney who has rode for Oxford in the past. There has been lots of online banter between the Pit Bike racers , and you can be assured that none of these racers will be giving an inch.
Turnstiles open at 6pm for what is going to be a full night of racing. Practice starts at 6.30pm with the first race commencing at 7pm.
Over 35 races are planned for the event and is great value at £10 for Adults, £7 for Concessions (Students and Oaps with valid ID), £3 for children aged 12-16 and KIDS 11 AND UNDER GO FREE. The Stadium has full catering facilities in its plush glass fronted stand with excellent viewing both indoors and out.

Love and Support Group membership about to top 6,000
Response to the group founded by Mike Patrick after Leigh’s accident was about to hit a phenomenal 6,000 members as the Speedway Star went to press on Tuesday.
Patrick says, “I’m absolutely lost for words. When the group was first formed, a total membership of 5,000 was somewhat optimistically hope for, but that figure was achieved after only three weeks. So great was the response that I had to enlist the help of long time friend and work colleague of Leigh’s, Bryn Williams to help with the admin side of things.”
“Friends and admirers are constantly posting messages of support from all parts of the globe, many of which have been beautifully written and have induced more than a few tears. Members spend hours on the page, looking at the many photos and videos and memories of Leigh that are continuingly being added. Kylie has told me that Leigh gets to read every single message and is extremely grateful to everyone. Any news that she relates to me gets posted as soon as it’s received.”
Patrick adds, “Please keep your messages coming as they ARE helping Leigh in this, the toughest race of his life. I’d particularly like to ask people who have worked with Leigh – riders, promotors, the media etc., anyone who has thoughts about the man, not only as a rider but also as a person, to please share those thoughts with the group. A new dedicated email address has been set up for non Facebook members to use, firstname.lastname@example.org. If you left a message on a previous email address that was given, please post again as a lot of those posts didn’t get through. All messages etc., will be placed on the group pages on your behalf.”
