REUNION IS A BIG HIT
FORMER Oxford promoter John Payne was delighted by the success of Sunday’s Oxford Cheetahs reunion at the Plough in Wheatley.
Payne was in charge at Oxford between 1980 & 1995, alongside Bernard Crapper, and he has now been the landlord of the Plough for nearly 20 years.
Payne said: “Ann Booker did a tremendous job in arranging and organising the event. Hats off to her, for coming up with such a great idea.
“I really enjoyed myself. I had a long chat with Mike Patrick, who was a regular at Oxford for many years. It was great to catch up with Mike, and I hope he enjoys his retirement from speedway photography.
“And it was brilliant to meet up with the riders, talk about old times and find out what they are doing these days. All-in-all, it was a fabulous day.”
Booker is now organising a further event, to celebrate what would have been the 50th birthday of the late and much-missed Simon Wigg. It will take place at the Plough on Sunday, October 24.
